EMAS – an Eco-Management and Audit Scheme developed by the European Commission, based on the regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009, that can be used voluntarily by companies and other organizations in order to evaluate, report, and improve their environmental performance. EMAS can be implemented through an Environmental Management System (EMS) and it is usually combined with the ISO 14001 standard. The main goal of EMAS is to help companies and organizations to reduce the environmental impacts, strengthen legal compliance and employee involvement, and save resources and money.
