New Health & Safety Legislation in Cyprus – Employer Obligations from April 2026

As of April 21, 2026, the New Health and Safety Legislation and more specifically the Amendment of the Occupational Health and Safety Law of 2026 came into force, which amends article 13(c) and introduces new obligations for all employers.

What employers should do

According to the new provisions:

  • Health and Safety induction training and awareness, must be provided to all employees from the first working day.
  • Training must be carried out in a language and format understandable by each employee, in order to ensure a substantive understanding of the relevant instructions and procedures.
  • During Induction training, employees are entitled to full remuneration, in accordance with:
    – the Wage Protection Law, and
    – the Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions Law.

Based on relevant information from the Labor Insoection Depertment, all companies should immediately: 

  • Review the existing Occupational Written Risk Assessments (WRAs)
  • Proceed with revisions where necessary
  • Incorporate the new legislative requirements into new and existing procedures
